My approach is grounded in local knowledge and relationships – I take time to understand context, work at the pace of the people I'm alongside, and respect local cultures, economies, and environments.
How I work
My approach
I focus on long-term change – work that considers future generations and the health of communities and ecosystems
I take time to understand context and build trust – I don't jump into solutions before understanding the situation and the people involved
I start with what's already working – and create space for people to shape the process and outcomes
I'm upfront about how decisions get made – and make sure people have real choice in the process
I build in time to reflect, learn, and adjust – recognising that good work evolves as understanding deepens
I aim for practical, usable outputs – and make space to acknowledge progress and contributions along the way

Areas of focus
Intercultural and intergenerational change
approaches that respect different knowledge systems, cultural protocols, and timeframes for change
Local and place-based change
understanding how change happens differently in different places, and why local knowledge, relationships, and leadership matter
Governance and decision-making
how communities and organisations make decisions, share power, and structure themselves to get things done
Community wellbeing and wealth
supporting communities to build and benefit from local assets, resources, and economic opportunities over the long term
Approaches I draw on
Participatory and adaptive approaches
involving people in shaping the work from the start, and adjusting as you learn
Immersive and experiential learning
creating learning environments where people engage actively through methods like role play, scenarios, and world building
Reflection and action-learning
building in regular time to pause, learn from what's happening, and adjust the approach
Story and narrative
using storytelling to understand experiences, make sense of complexity, and share what's learned

“Kate’s dedication and commitment to her work is the slow burning fire that every team needs. Level head and practical, but with a good dose of creativity, Kate has shown an incredible ability to move around problems. She also invests herself thoroughly into her work, making sure that those around her can see not just the end goal, but the road in front of their feet too.”
